Last night, we were out with friends and the discussion of a Virginia Beach half marathon came up.  It was the Yuengling Shamrock Marathon 2012 and Anthem Half Marathon. Now, I've never really ran before, but it has been something that has been on my personal bucket list.  Josh and I try to maintain an active lifestyle, but I've always left the running to him as I work on the treadmill at a 3.9 mph speed and 3% graded incline.  But, here comes the discussion of actually participating.  And I am intrigued.  So today I began my process by looking up the half marathon information and finding the training schedule. I also stumbled across the map description of the race, and I will admit, it does sound appealing, running along First Landing State park, along Cape Henry Lighthouse (oldest US lighthouse) and finishing up on our ocean front boardwalk ?!?!
So, here I was with the race information in one hand and the training schedule in the other.  Am I going to do it?  Well, Im sure going to try!! I even found another race on Valentine's day weekend that would be great timing as a trial race for me! It looks super cute too because I'm all about hearts!  It's call the "Virginia Is For Lovers" 14K (cute play on the number 14, eh?!).

But minor (well, kind of more major) roadblock is that my current workout/running shoes have been around the block and I have worn out the back heels of each shoe.  They are currently being tied over with moleskin (a few layers), but even with that, I am still prone to stopping my run due to excessive friction.  That led us to a trip to Dick's Sporting Goods, to find a new pair of running shoes!

It's handy having a husband who is interested not only in athletics, healthy lifestyle an being a great work out partner, but he is also familiar with running and shoes.  So I actually ended up walking out of the store in shoes that are the female version of his current running shoes.  I bought these more so for their comfort and the fact that they are incredibly light weight and flexible.  I did NOT buy them so that we can look like "THAT" couple with matching outfits and shoes.

So now I have new shoes and a training schedule, but most importantly, I have a few reliability partners to make sure I stay on course.  And I am posting onto here...so that I can hold myself more reliable as I update you on my process!!

Here's to good health, good shoes and a good time!!

And here are my new kicks!! Cannot wait to test them out!!
So, I ask for your help to continue to keep me encouraged and dedicated to my new goal!! Here I go!!
Do you have any running means of encouragement?? If so, I'd love to hear them!!
Thanks for traveling along!!
